KEY SPRING/SUMMER 2013 TRENDS FOR ACCESSORIES

Here we bring you the latest fashion news on accessories from the catwalk front. All fashionistas that respect their fashion reputation know how being seen in the latest accessory trends is essential.

You might get away from getting your hands all over fashion trends, but accesssories is always a fool-proof way for being in fashion for less. We don't think this is fashion news to you, but keep an eye on accessory trends and be stylish as ever!  This is a well-known secret in the fashion world: you can keep your clothing options along classic lines and simply wear current accessory trends and voila: you look like you just walk out of a catwalk.

It's going to be a year of contrasts, on the one hand we got girly sherbet tones, shiny, sleek materials and exquisitely feminine pastel tones in shoes and bags, and on the other hand, we got fierce, wild necklaces with lions and dragons from mythology and beyond. So what's it going to be? We just shared the fashion news, you'll make fashion history!

You see right through me

The fashion news forecasts that this trend is going to stick around. Especially loved in bags and clutches, see through-totes, are going to be the most playful accessory in our spring wardrobe and we can hardly wait!

If you like it you should put a fringe on it

Fashion news: Fringe will take over the country! We got a glimpse of fringe bags and vests last summer, a trend of Indian undertones and a quite popular one at summer music festivals. It is reintroduced for Spring 2013 in even more accessories. Not for the faint-hearted, it's a fashion trend that grows on you, think of necklaces and bracelets all fringed-up! We love trends that turn our fashion style on its head!

Go big on prints

Graphic, monochrome, nature-inspired, animal-prints, you name it. Catwalks this year declared that anything goes. Steer away from the predictable leopard print though and choose instead something that makes the fashion news headlines!

Here are our top picks to help you decide. Easter prints with lotus flowers, dragons, warriors and the animal kingdom in its full glory! Or, go for gypsy themed shoes, oriental graphic print in bags and feminine floral prints in skirts and dresses. If this happy-go-lucky trend can't kick away your winter blues, we don't know what will!

Monochrome gone bad

Think of this as color gone drunk! We got great fashion news for you: this trend can luckily be found in the most stylish of your aunts' closets. Scavenge through their jewelry boxes and be prepared to find a treasure or two. Look for:  contrasting black and white shoes and check bags-remember, the quirkier the better!

Zoom in on metal

Chain bracelets, chain handle bags and metal knee-long necklaces is a trend we repeatedly spotted on the Spring/Summer'13 catwalks. Extra large bracelets and the oh-so chic statement necklaces will be a hit this summer, guaranteed. When fashion news predicts trends that are wearable and fun, we can't help but be joyful! From belts to arm candy and imaginative headbands, metallic accessories will have a comeback in our summer wardrobe!

WHEN THE ENVIRONMENT MAKES THE HEADLINES IN THE FASHION BUSINESS NEWS

The behind the scenes of the Fashion Industry are as juicy and unexpected as the collections on the runway each season. The fashion industry is constantly reinventing itself partly because of new technological tools available and partly because of the demands and impact of consumers themselves.

This section is dedicated to the latest fashion business news, because every self-labelled fashion-addict knows what’s on the catwalk and what’s behind it.

Greenpeace and the Detox Campaign to make fashion clean (apart from stylish)

We were used to seeing Greenpeace activistz fighting against genetically modified organisms (GMO) and illegal whale hunting in Japan, but today Greenpeace has taken a series aim to make fashion toxic-free.

One of the most welcomed and successful fashion business news was the commitment of many respected and well-established brands and companies to switch to toxic-free fashion practices.

Recently, the Italian Benetton Company announced that it will commit to minimizing all hazardous, toxic chemical releases. Benetton is added to a hopefully ever-growing list of big names including Levi’s, Zara, Mango, H&M and Esprit to name a few.

Greenpeace’s campaigns have been for the last six months making the news in the fashion business news with its sharp, persistent and as it turns out, thoroughly effective Detox campaign for eliminating toxic discharges that burden the environment.

The latest fashion business news points to one thing: consumers have great power, often disregarded or undervalued by the brands themselves. What this teaches us is that we need to take consumers more seriously, their power to take down a brand any day is dauntingly immense.

The successfulness of Greenpeace’s Detox campaign largely depends on loyal consumers of these brands exerting unprecedented pressure online and onsite to these companies. Zara committed to a toxic-free fashion just after nine days of relentless public pressure through social media and campaigns outside flagship stores in major cities.

Benetton dropped a fashion business news bomb when it announced  that it is willing to commit too to a toxic-free fashion. Now Benetoon along with brands like NIKE, Puma, M&S, ZARA and Uniqlo are becoming more respected and revered by fashion fanatics across the globe for their environmental sensitivity and swift reaction to actually commit to the Detox Campaign.

The Campaign

According to the latest fashion business news from Greenpeace’s front, fashion brands have been using toxic chemical in their fashion manufacturing factories. Greenpeace exposed these environmentally wrong practices taking place in the fashion world and today one by one big brands are pledging to commit to replace their hazardous chemicals with more environmentally-friendly alternatives.

The campaign launched back in 2011 and since then 13 big names were forced by social pressure to commit. Benetton becomes the thirteenth brand to do so, pledging to acquire transparent practices that are toxic-free and that by 2020 their releases will be 100% toxic-free.

What this implies for the Fashion Industry

Looking at earlier fashion business news  it immediately becomes evident that the fashion world was rarely consumed with environmental issues, but this is no longer the case. Today, every single policy and practice of a company is scrutinized and the fashion industry couldn’t escape this scrutiny.

As more brands commit to stop using toxic chemicals that cause water pollution, we are expected to see a fashion overhaul where more brands will comply with environmental initiatives and directives. Those who fail to follow, will most likely have to suffer public outcry and bear great financial losses.

FASHION INDUSTRY NEWS M2MALLETIER HANDBAGS

M2Malletier is making the latest headlines in fashion industry news. Their newest collection of attractive, eye-catching leather handbags are a nod to medieval aesthetics unlike any currently on the market. The description might make the edgy, new purses sound a little rough around the edges, but M2Malletier has managed to combine all the right elements that promise to have competitors soon following in their footsteps.

M2Malletier prides itself in creating high quality products that incorporate “old-world sensibility” with present-day modern aesthetics. Their latest product evidences just that. The brand has made fashion industry news in the past with their elegant minimalist designs. The founders of the brand aim to create “mini sculptures” with every piece, regarding the products of their craft as fine artwork.

Marcela Velez and Melissa Losada, the young founders, draw inspiration from architecture and their rustic, nineteenth century studio that was once a cement factory. The result has been a line of innovative handbag wares created entirely in Spain that sell for no less than $1,200 to $1,600. Trend setters appreciate the fine quality and durability of high grade materials as well as the singular designs unmatched by others. The handbag styling of M2Malletier will soon be available at Owen in New York and later online at Net-a-Porter.

Now the inventive handbag brand is making fashion industry news again with the season’s hottest handbags, defying the norms of the season. While other spring collections are playing up the season’s softer, lighter qualities, M2Malletier takes the opposite direction. Their 100% calfskin accessories come in dark, rich hues that include wine, black, and eggplant. Depending on the color choice, the accenting hardware comes in gunmetal or gold.

One feature that helps thrust the handbags into the fashion industry news spotlight are their unorthodox shapes. Shoppers have the choice of geometrical hexagon or doctor-bag inspired. Each purse is outfitted with a medieval-inspired rod that serves as a sturdy handle across the top. The new hardware came as a result of the designers’ boredom with typical handbag handles.

But the handbag making fashion industry news this season is not purely for viewing purposes. It features a leather strap that can be removed for dual purpose functionality. The strap makes the purse practical for daytime use while running errands, while the strapless look turns up the style factor to create a chic evening accessory.

M2Malletier is likely to make fashion industry news again next season. The new Fall ’13 handbags will maintain their characteristic geometric shape, but Losada and Velez intend to immerse them in bold, new colors. M2Malletier promises to remain at the forefront of fashion news. Next year they intend to add shoes to their line of trend setting products.
